Howard A. Matalon
Howard Matalon is a partner of the Firm and focuses on litigation and employment counseling. Mr. Matalon is a seasoned business litigator, with almost twenty years of experience acting as counsel on complex legal matters. Previously, Mr. Matalon was head of Commercial Litigation for the Princeton office of Buchanan Ingersoll Professional Corporation and Hale & Dorr LLP.
Mr. Matalon's primary litigation expertise lies in risk management and strategic planning in the areas of compliance, corporate governance and sophisticated business litigation. Over the course of his career, he has handled a number of complex litigation matters for such Fortune 500 companies as Home Depot and Macromedia. Mr. Matalon routinely counsels his client base on a host of regulatory matters, including the implementation of proactive measures to ensure that his clients achieve compliance while minimizing its fiscal and operational impact.
Mr. Matalon also provides his client base with employment counseling on a wide range of human resources issues, including whistleblowing, workplace harassment and discrimination. He also routinely coaches senior executives in their management of crisis situations and in negotiations with prospective employers.
Mr. Matalon has played an important and visible role in the New Jersey legal community. He has been involved in a number of business organizations vital to the growth of the New Jersey economy, including the Biotechnology Council of New Jersey, the New Jersey Technology Council and the New Jersey Retail Merchants Association. In September, 2000, in recognition of his ongoing efforts to improve the quality of lawyering throughout New Jersey, Mr. Matalon served as Chair of the New Jersey Supreme Court's District Ethics Committee for the Newark area. Mr. Matalon also served as a member of the Editorial Board of the New Jersey Lawyer, the official newspaper of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the Business and Commercial Litigation Committee of the New Jersey Bar Association.
Mr. Matalon is admitted to practice in New Jersey State and Federal Court, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Eighth and Ninth Circuits. Mr. Matalon previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alan B. Handler of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Mr. Matalon received a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Boston University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Boston University Law Review. He received a B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Brandeis University.
